Why Gurgaon Took To Beer Pong, Like Fish To Water?

Is it the culture that makes the people…. or the other way around? In the case of our dear ol’ Gurgaon, it seems they’re both making the city revolve! That Gurgaon is the NCR nightlife hub, corporate hub, startup hub and culinary hub, isn’t news anymore! The surge of multinationals in the city is flabbergasting, to say the least. But deep down is the yearn for slowing down, for ease, for stagnancy…. for recreation! The one diversion that has recently hit the city culture (read all of the hubs I mentioned above), taking the company culture by hand to a changing scenario, are the Drinking games, as they are often called!

beer pong

Combine the fun, spirit and competitiveness of a game with the ever enticing draw of booze. While hundreds of different drinking games are played at college parties ever year, only a handful are well-known. That said, one game possesses just enough excitement and competition to break free of the “drinking game” label and creep into the realm of sports.

You guessed it…. Beer Pong!

But what is it about this drinking game that sets it apart from the others? Beer pong requires skill, teamwork and the ability to stand after a plentiful amount of beer. But what is it about this darn game that is setting every corporate organisation in Gurgaon, on fire?

bond…. team bond!

Well, what if I give you something to it quirk up? What’s more fun than drinking? Playing and drinking! Here are our picks to add that extra dose to the fun quotient of your next party… Try these Bizarre, quirky and wacky drinking games at your next party!

Cup Swap

drinking games

Each player needs two cups (one that’s full of some sort of alcoholic beverage and one that’s empty) and a spoon. Participants have one minute to transfer as much of their drink as possible from one cup to the other using the spoon.

When the minute is up, you have to drink whatever’s left in the original cup! Here’s testing your love for that awesome thing called ‘Alcohol’!

Straight Face

drinking games

All players write sentences on small pieces of paper. What kind of sentences? Ones that are ridiculous or inappropriate; ones that anyone would struggle to read (or hear) while keeping a straight face.

One at a time, each player will choose a slip of paper and attempt to read whatever is written on it without giggling or cracking a smile. If they fail, they have to drink. Not for the weak willed! So, take with you all the sense of humour you got!

Most Likely

drinking games

Everyone sits in a circle and one player asks a “most likely” question, like “Who would be most likely to ask a stranger out in public?” or “Who would be most likely to eat someone else’s sandwich from the refrigerator at work?”

On the count of three, everyone points to whoever they think would be most likely to do that. You have to take a drink for every person who’s pointing at you (so if seven people think you’d ask a stranger out, you have to take seven drinks)! Apart from getting drunk, you’ll know how much your buds know you!

Two Truths, One Lie

drinking games

This one’s been my favourite. Lots of imagination, drinks and  can get you through this game. It can be played even with two friends, maybe on a date!

The opposing parties face each other. The first one to go will claim three points about himself. Out of these three, one will be a lie while the other two would be the truths about his life. The other person has to guess the wrong statement out of the three statements that he had made. It is imperative to sit in front of each other so facial expressions can help the opponent in guessing out the answer. The player who says the wrong ‘lie’ will have to drink from his cup. Binge drink on your account…. But who care. right?

Never have I ever

drinking games

What’s more fishy and exhilarating than to discover secrets about your friends? Or perhaps reveal it yourself? “Never have I ever” let’s you experience this thrill with no strings attached. Choose who will go first. This person will make a statement of an act that he has never done in his life. If the other players had done that already, sometime in their life, they will take a shot of their drink. For example: “I have never went to a strip club”. Anyone who has been to a strip club will drink a shot of their glass. If nobody has done that act, then the person who made the statement will have to take a shot of their glass.

Sounds like fun! But be ready to be exposed by your troupe!

Drunk Jenga

drinking games

One of the best drinking games designed for a party of friends, Drunk Jenga is a classic board game with a twist. The players do not necessarily follow a set of rules and try to be creative as much as possible.

A box of Jenga blocks are taken, and a bunch of different rules are written on them. Rules can vary wildly such as “gulp down three drinks at one time”, “pick your nose”, or “dance whenever asked to”. The more creative the activities get, the more fun this game gets to be.

Whenever a player pulls out a Jenga block from the tower, he/she must abide by the rule. As soon as the tower collapses, the person responsible for that will have to finish his drink. Let your crazy ideas brim….

Buzz

One of the easiest games to play, Buzz is simple…. but sure to get you buzzed! Each player starts counting a number and says it aloud, except 7 and its multiples, in which case, you say buzz. If you don’t, you drink. Simple! Get on with your math… or get drunk!

Attached at the Hip

An awesome ice breaker for your guests –  this game will get them close, quite literally! So, you scribble body parts on pieces of paper and put them together. Everyone makes a team of two and picks up two chits. They have to make sure that the body parts mentioned in the chits touch each other or are ‘attached’ for as long as they can. Every time someone separates, they take a shot. Don’t let your imagination run with this one!

Picture the craziness at your next party?

Trivia- And This Is How We Got Beer Pong!

Beer Pong is believed to have originated in the 1950s within the fraternities of Dartmouth College. Back then, their version was more like a traditional game of Ping Pong because they used paddles and a net. Sometime in the 1980s in the United States, the game change to no paddles or net and the name Beer Pong was adopted.

Rules beer pong – How to play

STARTING EACH GAME—–PLAYERS WILL PLAY EYE-TO-EYE TO SEE WHO GOES FIRST. WHICH IS LOOKING DIRECTLY AT YOUR OPPONENT AND SHOOTING THE BALL. IF ONE PLAYER HITS A CUP AND THE OTHER DOESN’T, THEN THE TEAM THAT MADE THE SHOOT GOES FIRST. IF BOTH PLAYER MAKE THE EYE-TO-EYE, THEN KEEP ROTATING PARNTERS UNTIL SOMEONE MAKES IT, AND SOMEONE MISSES.

FILLING CUPS BEFORE EACH GAME–EACH TEAM IS RESPONSIBLE TO GET A PITCHER OF BEER AND USE ¾ OF THAT PITCHER STARTING WITH 10 CUPS. SAVING THE ¼ INCASE OF OVERTIME. EACH CUP HAS TO BE EVENLY FILLED, NO LOADING UP ANY CUP.  SCHEDULE OF EACH NIGHTS GAMES—–EACH TEAM WILL PLAY 3 GAMES A NIGHT, STARTING AT 830, 900, 930PM & 10PM.

SCORING LEAGUE POINTS——EACH GAME WON IS WORTH 5 POINTS, PLUS 1 POINT FOR EVERY CUP YOU STILL HAVE RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU AT THE END OF THE GAME. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN A TEAM WINS, AND THEY STILL HAVE 4 CUPS RIGHT IN FRONT OF THEM, THE SCORE FOR THAT GAME WOULD BE 9 POINTS TO THAT TEAM. (5 PTS FOR A WIN, 4 POINTS FOR 4 CUPS LEFT) THE LOSING TEAM GETS 0 POINTS, AS THEY SUCKED AND LOST. THESE POINTS ARE WHAT THE STANDINGS ARE DONE OFF OF.

RE-RACKS—-2 RE-RACKS PER TEAM FOR EACH GAME. YOU CAN RE-RACK IF YOU HAVE 6 CUPS OR LESS. YOU CAN ONLY RE-RACK BEFORE YOUR TURN, AND MAY NOT RE-RACK WHEN YOU GET BALLS BACK, DURING REBUTTALS, OR OVERTIME

RE-BUTT-AL—–WHEN THE SHOOTING TEAMS HITS THE LAST CUP OUT OF THE ORGINAL 8 CUPS, THEN THE OTHER TEAM GETS THEIR REBUTTAL SHOTS. BOTH OF THOSE TEAM MEMBERS SHOOT UNTIL THEY MISS. IF THE REBUTTING TEAM ELIMINATE ALL CUPS, THE OVERTIME STARTS.

OVERTIME——OVERTIME WILL BE 3 CUPS, PLACE IN ANY ARRANGEMENT EACH TEAM WANTS. NO RE-RACKS IN OVERTIME.  DO THIS UNTIL 1 TEAM WINS, REPEAT OVER TIME AS MANY TIMES AS NEEDED.

ELBOW RULE——YOUR ELBOW MUST STAY BEHIND THE BACK LINE OF THE TABLE. DON’T BE A JERK, KEEP YOUR ELBOW BEHIND THE LINE. ANY DISPUTE SHOULD BE HANDLED BY PLAYERS, IF IT CANT BE SOLVED INFORM ANTHONY AND HE WILL MAKE A RULING. IF NO DECISION CAN BE MADE, A REDO OF THE SHOOT WILL HAPPENS. REPEATED VIOLATIONS WILL GET YOUR TEAM AN AUTOMATIC LOSE OF GAME

NO REBUTTAL RULE—-REASONS WHY THERE COULD BE NO REBUTTAL ON SOME GAMES….

-TEAM MEMBERS BOTH HIT THE SAME LAST CUP ON TABLE

-TEAM MEMBERS HIT SAME CUP WITH 3 OR LESS CUPS ON TABLE

THIS IS BECAUSE THE SHOOTING TEAM SHOULD GET BALLS BACK DUE TO THESE SHOTS, BUT SINCE THERE WOULD BE NO CUPS TO SHOOT AT BECAUSE THEY DOUBLE CUPPED YA. THEN IT IS GAME, SET, MATCH!!!

ADJUSTING CUPS DURING GAME—–PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED TO ADJUST CUPS BACK TO ORGINAL FORMATION AFTER OR BEFORE THE OTHER TEAM SHOOTS. WE ARE A FRIENDLY LEAGUE, AND LINING THE CUPS BACK UP IS WHAT WE DO. PLAYERS MAY ALSO PUSH CUPS BACK OF THE EDGE OF TABLE IF ANY PART OF THE CUP IS IN DANGER OF FALLING OFF. THIS MAY BE INBETWEEN OPPOSING PLAYERS SHOTS.

HEATING UP RULE—-IF THE SAME PLAYER HITS 2 SHOTS IN A ROW, THEN THEY MUST CALL OUT “HEATING UP”, AND IF THEY HIT THEIR NEXT SHOT, THEN THAT PLAYER CAN CONTINUE TO SHOOT UNTIL THEY MISS. THIS IS DONE ASAP AND BEFORE THEIR PARTNER SHOOTS. OPPOSITE TEAM REMOVES CUPS AS THEY ARE HIT.

FOULS—–IF A TEAMS SHOT HITS YOUR HAND OR BODY PRIOR TO TOUCHING ANY CUP, THEN THE VIOLATING TEAM HAS TO DRINK ONE CUP, AND THE SHOOTING TEAM RE-SHOOTS THAT SHOT. YOU CAN BLOCK A BOUNCE SHOT

CUPS FILLED WITH BEER——ALL CUPS MUST HAVE BEER IN THEM, NO WATER. HENCE THE NAME OF THE LEAGUE “BEER PONG LEAGUE”.  CUPS CAN NOT BE FILLED FROM A PITCHER YOU ARE DRINKING FROM, MUST BE A FRESH PITCHER BE FAIR ABOUT IT, NO ONE WANTS YOUR WARM HALF DRANK PITCHER!!!!!

OTHER RULES——–NO FINGERING, BLOWING, FANING, ISLANDS, BEHIND THE BACK IF BALLS COME BACK SHOT, CROSSING THE EDGE OF THE TABLE FOR A FAKE OUT, OR TOUCHING BALLS IN CUPS!!!!! WE PLAY SEMI-OLD MAN RULES!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE TO FINISH YOUR CUP OF BEER PRIOR TO SHOOTING, OR THAT SHOT DOES NOT COUNT, NO REDO’S.

RULES MAY CHANGE FROM WEEK TO WEEK, IN ORDER TO KEEP THE PACE OF PLAY QUICK, AND COMPETITIVE. THIS IS A LEAGUE WE HAVE FUN, AND WILL MAKE SURE IT’S THE BESTEST EVER!!!!
